Have you ever felt the joy when you give to those in need?
In 2020 while researching for presentation on ethically decluttering and waste reduction in Sydney, I was introduced to a Sydney based charity called The Generous and The Grateful. They were the answer to my prayers, a place where quality unwanted households are gratefully accepted.
When it comes to ethically decluttering the secret to successfully finding good homes for unwanted stuff, is working with a charity that keeps things simple and gives you peace of mind your donations are wanted and valued. The Generous & The Grateful stands because they connecting excess items such as sofas, fridges, washing machines, bunkbeds, TV’s, chest of drawers and other key household furniture and white good items with people in need.
Pre-loved essentials are fast-tracked to furnish homes so people may rebuild their lives and thrive at the same time reducing waste to landfill.
In 2020 alone
- 489 empty rentals were turned into safe, inviting homes.
- Helped almost 1300 people begin to thrive.
- 122 tonnes of items redirected from unnecessary landfill.
- Undertook bigger projects of furnishing 2 new properties for Women’s Community Shelters’ and working with national construction group.
This all started in 2017 with Carmen Platt and a trusty blue trailer with the idea that if she could set up a safe home for someone, they could get on with rebuilding their lives more easily.
Angry at seeing so many people sleeping on bare floors, with no way to access the things so many of us have to share. “In this day and age in Australia? Not on my watch!” she says.
Before long, Davida joined her with a keen passion to harness the amount of great things on offer from kind hearted people, who were pleased to help out a fellow human in need, and excited to decrease landfill in the process.
The Generous and the Grateful quickly gained a loyal following of community members who loved what they were doing, and wanted to get involved.
