sort and organise stuff

Sort and organise at arm’s lenght

Hold onto your hat, this is going to shock you!!

We don’t always need to declutter, sometimes we just need to sort and organise!!!!

Some of you will breathe a sigh of relief, the role of a Professional Organiser not to throw STUFF out, it is to help you simplify life, making it easy to find what you want when you want it.

Life is too short to be looking for STUFF ~Tanya Lewis

The simply way to sort the good from the bad and ugly is to start small and work one draw or one shelf at a time, do not pull everything out of the wardrobe, linen press or god forbid the garage. The common response from that method is screaming, rocking backwards and forward or people lying in the fetal position. I cannot stress that enough, please start small.

If you need a reminder on how to declutter check out our blog How to declutter in 5 simple steps or check out STUFF OFF!

Once you have sorted and decluttered and decided where to store things, the next step is to divide the space into into zones, let’s use the kitchen as an example.

My morning starts with a cup of tea, I want to make sure my cup and tea are close at hand, these essentials would sit within arms lenght

  • Arm’s Length: Use immediate space for things you use several times a day.
  • Second Place: Things that are used daily
  • Third Place: Things used weekly
  • Fourth Place: Things used month, seasonally or annually.

Don’t clutter your valuable benches or space with infrequently used items, if you are unsure whether something commands space on your benches, its time to stop, pause and rethink. Ask yourself

Q.   Does it warrant space in my life?

Q. Does it add value or get in the way

Save your feet, save time and reduce clutter and stress and organise at arms length.
